Description:

The Center for Improved Engineering and Science Education (CISE) at the Stevens Institute of Technology has put together an excellent resource for teachers looking to make the most of Internet technology in their classrooms. Teachers and students can choose from collaborative, partner, or real time data projects to work on, each of which is open to the public free of charge. Although the focus is on math and science, many projects have interdisciplinary aspects, too. Each project has teacher and student areas and links to the National Science Standards or NCTM standards it supports.

How You Can Use This Source:

  • Have your students calculate their water use and compare it to water use in other countries with the help of the "Down the Drain" project.
  • Track a real airplane in flight and learn how vectors and trigonometry are used for aviation navigation with the "Navigational Vectors" project.
  • Investigate the field of genetics with a web-based hypermedia tutorial called "The Morgan Tutorial."
