Description:

The California Certified Organic Farming program has existed since 1973, promoting organic farming in California. Organic farming requires that farmers do not use chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Farmers must use organic means to get rid of harmful pests and to promote the healthy growth of their crops. On the CCOF homepage you can find out what standards farmers must meet for their produce to be considered 'organic.' You can also read the CCOF newsletter to find out about the latest trends in organic farming. There's also a FAQ so you can learn the terminology and basic concepts involved with organic farming.

How You Can Use This Source:

  • Start with the FAQ to gain a basic understanding of organic farming. This will give you a background for reading the newsletter.
  • Read the CCOF newsletter to see what's happening now in organic farming.
